A truly magnificent fern from eastern Asia, this will be a major talking point amongst fellow gardeners. The first picture shows the colour of the new fronds, a bight brick-red. Stunning when the fronds can be over 2m in length!
This is easy to propagate from ready rooted bulbils which appear at the end of each frond (one per frond hence the species name unigemmata 'One Jewel'). Fast growing and a great addition to the collection!
Prefers wet to moist acid/neutral soil.
Possible alternative in milder areas- Woodwardia orientalis.
